Conference Sponsorship & Application

(A) Overseas Geriatric Conference Sponsorship

HKGS has decided to support current full members to attend reputable Geriatric overseas conferences.

HKGS will cover 80% of the cost including return economy airfare, accommodation & registration fees. The maximum amount reimbursable is HK$ 25,000. Recommended conferences are those organized by the British Geriatric Society, American Geriatric Society, Canadian Geriatric Society, Australia and New Zealand Society of Geriatrics Medicine, International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics and the Asia Pacific Geriatrics Conference.

HKGS will support a maximum of 2 members per conference each year. Priority will be given to:

1. higher physician trainees,
2. members with active participation in the conference i.e. chairman, speaker, abstract / paper presentation,
3. members who have never been granted the sponsorship before.

Here are the procedures for application:
1. Members will inform the Hon. Secretary about their intention of active participation.
2. Send a copy of the abstract to the Hon. Secretary.
3. Inform the Hon. Secretary when the paper has been accepted and submit formal application and budget. Application form can be downloaded from the HKGS website.
4. Formal Application must be submitted to Hon Secretary at least 6 weeks before the conference for processing.
5. Hon. Secretary will seek the council for final approval and inform successful applicants.
6. Result of the application will be announced to the applicant at least one month before the conference as far as possible.

 

(B) Logistics for allocating sponsorship from commercial companies to members to attend conferences

1. All sponsorships from commercial companies should be sent to the Society directly - no specification of any particular candidate is allowed.
2. The council members will vote for the applications of sponsorship according to the criteria set below.
3. Priority will be given to higher physician trainees, members with active participation in the conference (i.e. chairman, speaker, abstract/paper presentation), and members who have never been granted sponsorship before.
4. The sponsorship can be in the form of donation of a lump sum of money or a pre-arranged program including travel fees and accommodation arrangement etc.
5. All money received from any such sponsorship should be set aside by the Society as Training & Development Fund and not for other purposes.
6. The availability of sponsorship and invitation of application would be mainly announced through our Home Page, email and in our Newsletter if time allows.
7. For those members who have no access to internet, the announcement will be sent to them by mail. Such members are required to send to the Honorary Secretary five return mail envelops with stamps for this purpose and supply more again when the stock is used up.
8. Eligibility of application is limited to life, regular or associate members of the Society.
9. Application form can be downloaded from the HKGS website. An administrative fee of HK$ 300 in cheque shall be made payable to the ‘Hong Kong Geriatrics Society’ and is non-refundable.
10. Applications should be submitted to the Hon. Secretary 6 weeks before the conference date. Result of the application will be announced to the applicant at least one month before the conference.
